SSSS.Dynazenon – Ep. 6

To find out if Kano really did kill herself, Yume gets access to a private video of her sister’s classmates pulling a prank on her. That Kano’s friends kept picking on her is plausible enough as a catalyst for Kano feeling suicidal. That kind of thing is what stupid kids do these days and it can really mess someone up. The fact that the video is privatized certainly implies that the people involved in the video might feel responsible for Kano’s death. For some reason however, Yume feels the video isn’t conclusive enough and she seems indecisive on what to do next. Also troubling is her decision to cutting Yomogi off from her investigation. I can understand if she feels it’s a family matter but I don’t know, she did let Yomogi accompany her a couple times now and it may help her to talk to someone else about how she’s feeling.

Meanwhile, we see Koyomi developing his own turmoil as he has some drinks again with Inamoto and meets her husband. I get that he’s feeling like a third wheel and he can’t help but compare Inamoto’s marriage to him being forever alone but if he does have feelings for Inamoto, he should honestly drop them. Also, unless it becomes relevant later, Koyomi probably shouldn’t get too hung up with the past. It’s been years since he kept Inamoto’s secret and Inamoto seems to be pretty different compared to how she was back then. All the past is doing right now is keeping him stuck on an old crush.

So for once, the Kaiju Eugenicists are actually being villainous apart from making the kaiju do their bidding. Juuga and Onija think they should eliminate Gauma and his pals so that they have no more resistance to their plans. Sizumu on the other hand feels that killing the good guys would be a waste. He argues that having them around might attract more kaiju and it’ll lead the Kaiju Eugenicists in finding better kaiju for their agenda. This argument comes up again when Mujina manages to snatch Dyna Striker from Koyomi. Onija wants to destroy it to put Dynazeon at a disadvantage. Juuga wants to use it as a bargaining chip. Sizumu wants to return it to Gauma, presumably for the same reason mentioned earlier. While Sizumu is thinking pragmatically here, I do wonder if his weird friendships with Yomogi and Yume are having an effect on him. Like, maybe he enjoys their company more than he realizes. At the very least, I think if anyone double crosses the team, it’d probably be him.

As for Mujina, she’s initially undecided on the matter. The only reason she steals Dyna Striker is because Koyomi, accidentally left it for the taking and when she presents it, she lets the guys debate over what to do with it. Weirdly enough, she’s a lot less passive during the fight scene, even shocking Onija with how much she’s into fighting Dynazenon. I guess she gains a confidence boost from Sizumu calling her up and helping Onija take control of the kaiju but honestly, I’m not sure what to make of the personality shift. Also, this episode kind of had me thinking that the show is going to ship Koyomi with Mujina. Those two share a drink and kind of chat about their woes in one scene so I couldn’t help but wonder for a bit.

During the fight, the good guys successfully form Dynazenon but due to some of their current turmoil, the mech seemingly fights at suboptimal capacity and gets its butt kicked. Fortunately, someone familiar arrives in the nick of time. Long time no see, Gridknight! I was expecting a deep cut to Gridman the Hyper Agent but in hindsight, I should’ve considered someone from SSSS.Gridman as a possibility. Oh well, I’m still surprised that I was onto something last episode review. As for Gridknight, he did survive the final fight of SSSS.Gridman and it was left in the open what he would do after that show. It’ll be nice to get an update.
