Picking up from the end of the last episode, Gridknight wastes no time as he immediately proceeds to take on the monster of the week. Anti, or Knight (Kenichi Suzumura) as he’s now called, has always been strong so it should come as no surprise that he almost wins. What stops him from winning is the Kaiju Eugenicists retreating and teleporting the kaiju away. Honestly, you’d think they’d would’ve exercised this option the last couple of times they got their butts kicked. Curiously enough, the Kaiju Eugenicists try to see if Gridknight is a kaiju and they conclude that he isn’t since they can’t control him. That I find really interesting given Anti’s identity. He is technically a kaiju but since he has his own heart, he’s probably immune to the Kaiju Eugenicists’ abilities.
Knight doesn’t show up alone. He’s accompanied by Anosillus the 2nd, or The Second (Karin Takahashi) for short. We saw The Second treat Knight’s wounds at the end of SSSS.Gridman so them teaming up makes sense. Having these two together is going to be interesting as The Second is definitely a lot friendlier than Knight. I can see the former being the straight man to the latter’s moodiness. I do find it funny that they refer to themselves as the “Gridknight Alliance”. That had to be Knight’s idea since he has a knack for copying Gridman. Of course, the most noticeable thing about these returnees is their new designs. Some time must’ve passed since the events of SSSS.Gridman as these two look a lot older than they did before.
Funnily enough, Knight doesn’t get off on the right foot with the Dynazenon crew. After the Kaiju Eugenicists retreat, Knight immediately goes after Dynazenon, mistaking its dragon mode for another kaiju. The Gridknight Alliance eventually realizes this mistake and meet up with our heroes. The Second thinks the two groups should team up and she offers to repair an injury Dynazenon acquired in the last fight with a Fixer Beam (which was Gridman’s ability so you have to wonder how she acquired a “sample” of it). Gauma and Knight butt heads due to a mutual level of distrust and rudeness. I doubt that’ll go away anytime soon but the crew and the alliance do team up in the end and they manage to fight very harmoniously during the rematch with the monster of the week.
Elsewhere, we see the other Dynazenon pilots resolve their turmoil. Yume reconciles with Yomogi by confiding in him about how she currently feels about Kano’s death. I felt she should’ve done that in the last episode so better later than never. As for Koyomi, he spots Inamoto’s husband in the wreckage of the first battle and the dude actually contemplates if he should save him. The fact Koyomi even hesitates on this is unbelievable to me. I know he’s jealous of the guy but to leave him to die? That’s really low. Fortunately, Koyomi realizes how bad his envy is getting as he later decides to cut contact with Inamoto and let go of his feelings towards her. Seeing as how Inamoto is Yomogi’s boss, I’m curious if this episode is the last we see of her. It’s possible she might reappear but for Koyomi’s sake, I hope she leaves him alone.
