Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon – Ep. 11

Another quickie.

  • In this episode, Menagerie of Fools ventures to The Dead’s Lament Stratum, which is heavily populated with the undead. Lammis is apparently a big scaredy cat when it comes to horror but she begrudgingly agrees to join the expedition since the team need Boxxo and she’s the only one who can carry him.
  • If you like Lammis, you’ll be pleased with the plethora of faces she makes this episode. My favorite is when she gets frozen stiff after getting jump scared by the innkeeper.
  • Very funny how Lammis agrees to help but Filmina chickens out and barely makes a big deal about that. I guess being the vice captain has its perks.
  • What makes Lammis’s fear more amusing is that the undead are apparently harmless so long as you stay indoors. All they really do then is wander around and stare at people’s windows (which is creepy but it doesn’t pose any real danger).
  • During the first night at the stratum, Boxxo does an experiment to see what items can ward of the undead. You’d think salt and totems would work, purely on the basis that isekai love shorthand, but in a potentially subserve joke, none of these items do the trick.
  • There’s a fun segment in the middle where Hulemy trains Lammis in overcoming her fear. I like how Hulemy warns Boxxo not to coddle her as it’ll make Lammis too dependent on him and that very much is the case by the end of the segment.
  • Kerioyl eventually recruits Band of Gluttons and Mishuel. This episode severely lacks a moment where Mishuel is internally panicking but it’s nice to see him tagging along in an effort to curb his social anxiety.
  • Really silly that all the reconnaissance happens offscreen. I don’t mind it too much since I enjoy the character driven moments but this is an adventure show so I figured it’d be a bit more developed.
  • The final major segment has Boxxo befriending a zombie boy who begins to consistently visit him to drink a bottle of orange soda. The boy follows Boxxo all the way to a new location, even brining a coin with him, but this results in an oblivious Aka and Shiro vanquishing him. I figured the boy was going to get the axe (or I guess spear in this case) so I’m not that affected by his death. That said, I’m surprised to see the show present something so grey for a change.
