Here Lies My Hopes and Dreams for My Blog – October 2023 Edition

Time for an update and some reflections. Once again, I’m just going over the anime side of the blog.

Anime Episode Reviews

Currently Covering:

Fall 2023 just started so I have no clue what other shows I may cover, if any, so I’m just listing the two shows I committed beforehand. I’m not that passionate about writing first impressions anymore but I do plan on banging out a couple and I’m open to committing to at least one show (besides GOBLIN SLAYER, I mean).

I had only planned on covering the first two episodes of Superstar!! at the end of September so I’m very happy to have covered five before the premieres started. Superstar!! is currently on hold so that I can occupy myself with the Fall premieres. I plan on resuming coverage for the show on the 10th at the earliest. Currently, Superstar!! Season 3 has a vague 2024 release window. I’m doubtful it’ll premiere in Winter 2024. I imagine the production committee would specify that by now. Still, I want to be caught up with both Superstar!! and Nijigasaki by the end of 2023. I’ve slept and mulled over these shows for long enough and I don’t want to be super behind anymore.

As mentioned in last month’s announcement post, the current guideline I have for myself is cover GOBLIN SLAYER on Saturdays and Superstar!! on Sundays and days off. This is of course subject to change. As it turns out, GOBLIN SLAYER will air on Fridays so I could try to blog about it on the day it airs. If I’m running late, I immediately have the weekend as a safety net. If I add anything else from the Fall season, I’ll likely have to switch things around.

Obviously subject to change. This is in alphabetical order so there’s no indication to the order in which I tackle these shows.

Regarding Madoka, it’s been announced that the Walpurgisnacht Rising movie will release in Japan in Winter 2024. That said, Aniplex has yet to announce when and how it’ll release in the U.S. so a deadline to get the Madoka episode reviews done is still TBD. To be honest, I don’t know if I would get to the new movie if it releases in theaters first. I think I’d prefer to cover the new movie when it’s available digitally (that way, I’m free to pause and rewind the movie) and I haven’t gone to a theater in quite some time due to COVID. That all said, it would be nice to be caught up on the original Madoka by the end of the year so it’s possible I’ll revive my episode reviews for it soon. I probably don’t need to finish Magia Record for Walpurgisnacht. It’s a spin-off and its place in the canon is dubious. I doubt it’s required for the movie. That said, it would be nice to have the every major Madoka anime covered in episode reviews before I get to the new movie so we’ll see.

As you can tell, I finally added a couple of movies to the list. There’s a couple more from other shows that I’d like to blog about but for now, I’m just committing to the ones that are topical. I imagine I’d get to Gridman Universe first since it’ll be available on disc in Japan later this month. That said, I have no clue if it’ll stream in the U.S. around that time or when someone will upload a fansub of it. Also, I recently started rewatching Bunny Girl Senpai and I’m already halfway through the show. I should get to at least Dreaming Girl by the end of the year. Sister Venturing Out will release on disc in Japan next month so it’s in the same boat as Gridman. Knapsack Kid releases in Japanese theaters in December so there’s no way I’m getting to that movie anytime soon. I’ll probably get to the Laid-Back Camp Movie in December; I have a feeling Season 3 will premiere in January. Princess Principal is currently three movies in so while I want to catch up, I feel less of a rush with that compared to the other movies I’ve listed.

Episode Review Poll

The fourth review poll is still a hypothetical. That said, I’ve been thinking of a theme for it. Some ideas that came to mind are finishing shows in the miscellaneous archive page (or would be listed there since it’s under construction like every other stinking archive page), shows from seasons where I did not cover an original show, and shows that are returning in the future. The last one in particular might keep me motivated as I’d be given a deadline of sorts. There’s enough candidates for each of the themes so any of these are viable.
