Restaurant to Another World 2 – Ep. 2

This episode follows a similar structure to the first one, where the first half introduces a new guest character and the second features a returning one. I’m not 100% certain if this is the structure going forward but if it is the case, it’s a solid one for Season 2.

The first half introduces a vampire couple: Romero (Taku Yashiro) and Julietta (Miyu Tomita). Obviously, their names are a play on Romeo and Juliet. I don’t know if these two will end up dead like their namesake but they are in quite the predicament. Romero faces discrimination from Julietta’s family for being a vampire and Julietta has recently turned into one and decides to run away with her lover. The two are now on the run as Julietta’s family sends men to kill them. While hiding in a cave, Romero and Julietta discover a door to Nekoya and head in to lay low. I’m not sure why none of their pursuers follow them after that, the door is literally right there, but that’s besides the point.

Since they’re at a restaurant, Romero and Julietta decide to order some food but they mostly want to maintain their cover so they don’t really care what they eat and they opt for Nekoya’s most expensive dish, the beefsteak. But as you may expect, the two are impressed with the quality of the dish and decide to frequent Nekoya for the foreseeable future. I think this vignette is pretty good but it is very similar to many past introductory segments in this show. We’ve seen Nekoya be a refuge of some kind for people a couple of times now and while there aren’t a lot of couples in the cast, Romero and Julietta aren’t the first one we’ve seen. It’s hard not to think this show might be getting a little repetitive.

For the second half, the show puts the spotlight on Adelheid (Reina Ueda). Adelheid honestly grew on me as one of my favorite supporting characters in the show. Looking back, her introduction is one of the better and more heartwarming ones in Season 1 and she is among the few characters who share some fun and/or interesting interactions with some of the other characters. So another vignette starring this lady? I’ll take it.

In this segment, we see Shareef (Atsushi Tamaru) give some kaffa/coffee beans to Adelheid (finally, this dude makes a move!). Victoria (Yukari Tamura) recommends cream puffs as a treat to go along with the coffee so Adelheid orders some and she decides to share her food with her maid, Hannah (Yuu Wakui). I’ve never mentioned Hannah before as she was a very minor character in Season 1. It’s a little surprising to see her in a more prominent capacity but this episode does provide a charming moment with her. Being Adelheid’s maid, Hannah is taken aback when the princess wants to share a snack with her and hang out with her as friends. Thanks to the good food, that barrier gets broken down. It’s neat how Hannah doesn’t get nosy about how Adelheid obtained the cream puffs or the coffee beans. So long as the princess is happy, Hannah could care less where the food came from. That said, my only complaint here is that it is a missed opportunity to not have Hannah visit Nekoya. I guess it’s not required of the plot to do but Adelheid revealing the place to Hannah would certainly be a hell of a way to develop the friendship between these two.
