Temporary Note: Unrelated but I have my fourth and possibly final episode review poll up and running! The poll ends on Sunday, March 31. You will most likely need a Twitter/X account in order to vote.
Whereas the last episode was entirely dedicated to introducing new characters, Season 2’s sixth episode puts the spotlight over some of the returnees in addition to establishing more characters. The first half features Fardania (Yoko Hikasa), who I kind of didn’t expect to have her own segment this season. Technically, she already had a second segment in Season 1 so I figured there was no rush to feature her again. But lo and behold, we have another Fardania-centric segment here. It’s an odd choice but I like Fardania just fine so it’s no big deal.
During this segment, Fardania meets an elf girl named Alice (Megumi Toda) at some forest. Despite being a full on elf, Alice was born to a half-elf couple and lived in a half-elf village. Ostracized and feared after her parents’ death, the village abandons Alice and uses magic to prevent her from coming back. This isn’t too shocking given Restaurant to Another World‘s lore regarding elves but suffice to say, this is one of the darker backstories I’ve seen in the cast. At first, Fardania is unsure of what to do with Alice but she eventually decides to take her in as an apprentice after the two take a trip to Nekoya. Funny how both elven women in the returning cast has looked after a kid at this point.
Surprisingly, Fardania is unable to appease her tofu steak addiction as the Master is currently out of tofu. Honestly, you’d think the Master would run into supply issues more often. Some of the supporting characters eat a lot of food. Then again, they tend to just eat the same dish so maybe the supplies typically balance themselves out. With her precious tofu steak out of the question, Fardania decides to order some rice burgers for herself and Alice. I chuckled when Fardania orders seconds, only for the Master to reveal that he’s already preparing them. I can understand Fardania feeling a little offended because some of the other characters are also gluttons and yet, the Master doesn’t have as much foresight with them as he does with Fardania.
In the second half, the spotlight returns to Sirius (Hiro Shimono). I must say, having the episode switch from Fardania to Sirius is thematically fitting, what with both characters being chefs themselves. Thomas (Yusaku Yara), not the Thomas from last episode, does make an appearance but only in a cameo. That’s a pity. I was hoping to have back to back episodes featuring each of Restaurant to Another World‘s Thomases. Starring alongside Sirius this time around is his childhood friend and personal chef, Jonathan Winsberg (Yuya Hozumi).
In this segment, Sirius asks the Master if there are any other tomato-related dishes on the menu. He hopes that trying something else with the ingredient will help him understand it better and get closer to replicating Nekoya’s spaghetti and meat sauce in his world. This leads to the Master providing him with pizza the following week. Sirius brings Jonathan over as the latter is much better at analyzing ingredients than he is (you certainly buy it in the dialogue). I chuckled when the two started talking about toppings they could add to pizza. Mark my works, one of them will suggest pineapple and start a neverending debate in their world. I admit that I am concerned over the addition of Jonathan. The character himself seems likable enough but I wonder what it says about Sirius if he’s giving the task of replicating Nekoya’s dishes to someone who is clearly more qualified than him. It’d be really lame if Jonathan does most of the work from here on out.
