Time for an update and some reflections. Kind of awkward to post on April Fools’ but whatever, it can’t be helped.

The Spring 2024 premieres have begun. I don’t plan on writing a ton of First Impressions this time around. Going forward, I’ll probably only bang out a miscellaneous one when I don’t have an episode review scheduled on a day off.
I plan on covering at least two seasonal anime this season, one on Saturdays and one on Sundays. Obviously, I’m going to cover Laid-Back Camp Season 3 so that’s one slot taken care of. It’s the second show that I’m drawing a blank on. Last weekend, I went to Anime Boston (the first time in five years!) and I got to try Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night and Whisper Me a Love Song. I enjoyed both so either one might take the second slot. We’ll see. I can probably cover three shows if I do two on Saturdays, like I have the past couple of seasons, but I don’t know. I kind of want a more flexible weekend going forward.
For backlogged shows, I have Restaurant to Another World 2 and Lycoris Recoil. I restarted Lycoris Recoil first and I was thinking of covering that in lieu of Restaurant to Another World. However, I’m watching Lycoris with my best friend (he’s actually tagged along for a bunch of backlogged shows) and we each have our own lives so I don’t really have the show scheduled in. I ended up going through with Restaurant anyway so that I have something that I know I’ll tackle every day off. Picking Lycoris up again was maybe a bit dumb but I will cover the whole show as I’ve had with other shows I’ve covered retroactively. Hopefully, I’ll be done with it by the end of June. As for Restaurant to Another World, I should be done during April break (4/13-4/21). I fortunately managed to cover a bunch of episodes on weekdays to make up for picking up Lycoris Recoil and Anime Boston so that I can finish the show by that deadline.
March 2024 was the last month where I was actively tackling the backlog. I’m now going to phase that initiative out. Retroactive episode reviews will only be scheduled for vacations though like with Restaurant to Another World 2 recently, I may get a post out on some other day if I can pull it off and it benefits my schedule. I hope to cover all of the stragglers in the backlog by the end of August, with a potential extended deadline being the end of the year. Anything that I don’t get to by either deadline will be shoved over to the Miscellaneous archive page. I might pick up another unfinished show after Restaurant and Lycoris Recoil but that’s a very big maybe as I will be pre-occupied with another obligation mentioned down below.
So yeah, after mulling it over, I finally decided to do a fourth episode review poll. I may change my mind in future but this is intended to be the last one. The winner is Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury. For now, I’m only committing to the prologue and the first season. I said in the poll’s respective announcement post that I most likely can fulfill it in late May but there’s a chance that I can get it started during April break. Seeing as this might be the last poll and I didn’t do this with the third poll, I am thinking of covering the runner-up, 86, but I’m still deciding on this and I make no promises on it. It really depends on if I have the time.
