Episode 9 just aired but I still need to review Episode 8. Apologies for running behind.
Seeing as Makeine has revisited Anna and Lemon, it seemed inevitable that the show would shine the spotlight on Chika once again. In this episode, the literature club plans on hosting an exhibit at the school’s upcoming Tsuwabuki Festival. Shintarō and Koto plan on leaving the club soon due to graduation and entrance exams so they make Kazuhiko and Chika as the new club presidents and leave them in charge with handling the exhibit to get their feet wet and boost Chika’s self-confidence.
I’m curious if Chika’s crush on Shintarō will be revisited during this arc. Frankly, I’d kind of love it if, for once, we get character development completely self-contained from all the friendzoning. Plus, it’d be kind of weird to do so since it seemed like Chika had accepted being friendzoned pretty quickly, certainly more so than Anna and Lemon. Then again, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Chika has gotten over her feelings. In one scene, Anna postulates that Chika is hoping to impress Shintarō by doing a good job at the festival and thereby giving him quite the sendoff. It’s entirely possible that the show aims to readdress Chika’s feelings towards her senpai.
Anyway, the gang proceeds to brainstorm on ideas for the exhibit. Anna pitches that they do an exhibit involving famous authors and their favorite snacks, which the club could then produce and sell to their visitors. Of course Anna would come up with something food related. Everyone sees through Anna’s conceit but they do end up going along with this plan. Fortunately, the club doesn’t have to worry about the snacks as Kaju volunteers to make most of them. Got to love the random ways in which Kaju gest involved in the plot.
Another factor that the club has to consider is getting a club advisor. They’ve apparently been operating without one for some time and they need a new one now or else their application for the festival will be voided. Kazuhiko and Lemon first try to enlist Amanatsu-sensei but their homeroom teacher is already advising the ping-pong club. In the end, the club settles with having Konuki-sensei as their advisor. I probably should’ve seen this coming. The show established Konuki-sensei’s interest in student relationships again and hasn’t brought it up again in a long while. By making her the Literature Club’s advisor, it’ll be easier for her to commentate on what’s going on with the heroines. That said, I find Konuki-sensei’s nosiness freaking weird so I don’t know if I necessarily want to see more of her.
In the post-credit scene, Kazuhiko hands in the Literature Club’s application form the festival to the student council. Here, he meets student council president Hibari Hōkobaru (Hiroki Nanami) and vice president Tiara Basori (Sumire Morohoshi). Before this, Makeine has occasionally teased the student council with scenes involving its secretary, Yumeko Shikiya (Chika Anzai). I’m not really sure what the deal is with them but I guess I’ll find out soon enough as Hibari seems awfully curious about how the Literature Club will do during the festival.
