Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! – Ep. 10

Another quickie.

  • The festival happens in earnest this episode. I was curious if there’d more to this episode than that but no, it pretty much is just the literature club running their exhibit and Kazuhiko occasionally checking out the other events. I had fun with that plot though so I didn’t really mind it.
  • Not really sure what to make of the student council. I guess Hibari is an antagonist of sort but she doesn’t seem completely unreasonable to me. It does seem like going forward, Chika and Kazuhiko will have to deal with her from time to time.
  • Have I ever mentioned Yumeko, the student council’s secretary, before? I don’t think I have. I find it random how often this show involves her in fanservice but her dead inside personality has been very funny.
  • Very funny that Sōsuke and Karen play the leads in a romantic play; my only complaint is that we don’t see Anna’s reaction.
  • Love that Anna knows Kazuhiko and Chika’s first thought during their break is to just chill at the clubroom so she makes them go touch grass.
  • Did not realize how much I wanted Chika to meet Chihaya until now. Kind of makes me wish Chihaya would join the Literature Club.
  • Not that Lemon should hook up with that senpai of hers but it’s amusing that there is someone who has the hots for her and Lemon completely friends zone him.
  • Not enough Kaju.
  • Interesting that Kazuhiko thinks he’s not fit to be Chika’s vice president. He’s not wrong in that Chika has a tendency to do things on her own but I’d argue he’s selling himself short. He’s still one of the few people Chika would hang out with and as seen in the last episode, he is able to act as a voice of reason for her.
  • Koto admits that she knew about Chika’s feelings towards Shintarō from the start. She did not however expect Chika to confess. I like that even though Koto got what she wanted, she does feel bad for underestimating Chika and for using her to advance her own relationship. It’s nice then that she lets Chika talk to Shintarō alone after the festival.
  • It kind of feels redundant to even readdress Chika’s feelings towards Shintarō. This episode pretty much ignores it until the very end and out of the three heroines, I think Chika handled being dumped the best. Still, it is characteristic of the show that even Chika isn’t over her feelings and she still needs time to achieve closure. I like that Chika is more grateful than regretful about falling in love with Shintarō. If nothing else, those feelings have some fond memories attached to them and they did push Chika into becoming more confident.
