Here Lies My Hopes and Dreams for My Blog – October 2024 Edition

I neglected to give a site update in September so here’s one for October.

Anime Episode Reviews

Currently Covering:

  • [Seasonal] Love Live! Superstar!! (Season 3) – /TBD eps. (every Sunday)
  • [Seasonal] TBD (every Saturday)
  • [Retroactive/Poll] Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury – 5/12 eps. (whenever)

Scheduling can of course change, depending on what’s going on in my end.

Covering Revue Starlight left me with burnout so that’s why I haven’t been as active the past two months, especially August. I know I shouldn’t force myself to blog but I am bummed to let a vacation month pass by. At least covering Revue Starlight itself was a ton of fun. I’d like to go back to my review for the movie to add some additional comments on the music. I cut corners there due to a lack of time and the movie being so dense so I’d like to correct that at some point this month or the next. I don’t want to change too much of what I’ve already written down but that post is my longest episode review and therefore a bit unwieldy to read so I’m not entirely opposed to a bit of trimming. At some point, I’d like to cover the All Starlight shorts and the recent El Dorado visual novel in some fashion.

Once again, I apologize for keeping Witch from Mercury on hold. I know said it’d be “whenever” but I didn’t intend on taking so long. I told myself that I need to get two more episodes under my belt at the end of last month and fortunately, I managed to pull it off. The plan right now is to finish Season 1 by the end of my Thanksgiving break, leaving the door to begin covering Season 2 during the winter holiday break.

As for the current lineup, Love Live! Superstar!! is coming back so that’s already locked in. Honestly don’t know what to pick for the second seasonal slot. My top choices were Dragon Ball Daima and Blue Box are both shows are either confirmed or rumored to be more than one cour so I’m now a bit hesitant to cover those. I might squeeze in some first impressions but I doubt I can write that many this season, now that I’m back to work. If I can’t find anything that tickles my fancy, I’m not opposed to using Saturday for Witch from Mercury. That would admittedly make easier to get around to that show.

Backlog:

  • Princess Principal: Crown Handler w/OVAs – /3 movies; /3 OVAs
  • Rascal Does Not Dream of Knapsack Kid – /1 movie
  • Violet Evergarden movies – /2 movies.

Obviously, I didn’t get Violet Evergarden done alongside Revue Starlight during August. If you’re wondering what the holdup is, my plan has been to watch the movies with my best friend, who tried the show for the first time earlier this year and really enjoyed it. Thing is, my friend got hired for a new job, which is great for him but it has gotten harder to hang out with him as a result. My friend doesn’t mind if I watch the movies on my own but seeing as these have been in my backlog for years, I don’t mind waiting even longer. I’ll get do those movies as well as the rest of these stragglers. I just don’t know when.

Video Game Reviews

Marathon #1: Alan Wake

  • Alan Wake (PC/Steam Deck) – Beaten; review written
  • Alan Wake’s American’s Nightmare (PC/Steam Deck) – Beaten; review written
  • Control (PC/Steam Deck) – Playing
  • Alan Wake 2 (PC)

So this is new. I’ve always wanted to review games on my blog alongside anime but I’ve so far only reviewed a couple. I figured after getting a Steam Deck and getting the vast majority of my episode review backlog done, it’s time for a change of pace. So I’m trying something new here. I’d like to marathon through various game series that I’ve always wanted to try (spoiler alert: I’ve been living under a rock so there’s a lot for me to try). In between each game, I’ll draft a review and I’ll edit and post them once I’ve completed the marathon. I’ll mostly be playing on my Steam Deck and Switch as I much prefer playing on a handheld.

A new policy I want to mention is that going forward, I’ll mention in the respective review the official Deck status of a game if I played it on Steam Deck. If I use a mod to get the game to work on Steam Deck, then I’ll mention that as well. Also, I don’t plan on using emulators (I try to use official means whenever I can) but if I do, I will disclose that in the review.

As you can see, I’ve chosen the Alan Wake series as my guinea pig for this initiative. I chose this series because my friends have recommended it to me and I wanted a series I’m unfamiliar with and doesn’t take an absurd amount of time to get through. I decided ahead of time not to reveal this idea of mine until I’ve actually progressed through the series so that’s why I’ve already beaten and drafted reviews for the first game and American Nightmare. Control is on the list because it’s canon and it has crossover DLC. I’ll likely have to play Alan Wake 2 on my desktop; I don’t believe it runs well on the Steam Deck. That’ll suck as playing on the go is more convenient.

I might start the second marathon concurrently to Alan Wake 2 but I haven’t decided on a series. The only thing I’ve decided on is that I’d like to tackle a JRPG series next.
