So probably something I could save for the next “Hopes and Dreams” post but that’s at least a couple weeks away and the list below is pretty long so I think a separate post is warranted.
As some of you may know, I’ve been catching up on anime I cover in episode reviews. This started in Summer 2022 and while not as high of a priority now, it technically is still ongoing. There are currently two stragglers that I’m still committed to finish covering: the Princess Principal and Violet Evergarden movies. There are also however a bunch of other anime that I could add to the list, primarily because they’ll be coming back and would therefore still be topical to talk about. So for this post, I’m jotting down where I stand on many of these anime. This is at the top of my head so I’ll probably neglect to mention something (though if it is omitted, I probably wasn’t planning on finishing my coverage for it anyway). Also, this post is not really going to go over some of my other episode review ideas such as select re-reviews or covering manga volumes. Those are ideas I’d like to think over some other time.
- Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian – Maybe. Wasn’t too amazed with the first episode but the door is open to continue covering the show before Season 2 airs.
- Cells at Work!! & Cells at Work! CODE BLACK – Unlikely. I’ve noticed from tackling the backlog that I’ve largely stuck with anime that I’m just a season behind. Love Live! was an exception but that also made me realize that it’s a serious commitment to retroactively write 22-26 posts as opposed to just 11-13. I still however would like to cover these seasons in series reviews so that I at least have some kind of follow-up to my episode reviews.
- Fire Force (Seasons 1 & 2) – Unlikely. I’ve long since veered away from picking anime longer than a cour and covering up to 42 more episodes felt too daunting so that’s why I haven’t gotten back to Fire Force. With Season 3 premiering in April, there’s no way I’m catching up and writing episode reviews for the show. Like with Cells at Work!!, I’d like to go at least go the series review route.
- Fruits Basket (2019) – Maybe. Not a topical anime to write nowadays and there’s a lot of episodes I never got to. That all said, I love the Furuba manga and I just know that I would really regret it if I close the door on covering 2019 for good so I’m still leaving it as a maybe.
- Girls und Panzer Movies – Maybe. Technically, I did not cover the show on the blog but I did share my two cents on it on Twitter (now X) for Jon Spencer’s AniTwitWatches event. I’m leaving the movies as a maybe since they weren’t included in AniTwitWatches and it’d be fun to continue the coverage. I’d like to re-edit and repost my AniTwitWatches threads at some point though I have considered maybe covering the show again in more regular episode reviews. Admittedly, that would be more work for me so I don’t know.
- Go! Go! Loser Ranger (Season 1) – Unlikely. Was tempted to come back to this show in December but it didn’t pan out. I could probably still cover the remaining nine episodes during February break but I don’t know, I’ve been trying to avoid catching up that close to the next season’s premiere in case I screw up with my timing. I think I’ll have to settle on writing a series review for Season 1.
- Hell’s Paradise (Season 1) – Maybe. Honestly, the likelihood of coming back to Hell’s Paradise is a little high, if only because Season 2 is confirmed to premiere next year.
- Kaiju No. 8 (Season 1) – Maybe. Since Season 2 is premiering in July, I’d have to tackle Season 1 during February break and leave April break open in case I screw up. I’m still calling Kaiju No. 8 a maybe if only because I might be interested in something else. Also full disclosure: I did watch a little bit past Episode 2 (which is where I left the episode reviews off). Granted, that doesn’t necessarily rule out finishing out the episode reviews.
- Made in Abyss (Dawn of the Deep Soul & Golden City of the Scorching Sun) – Maybe. A giant maybe, in fact. I’d love to continue the Made in Abyss episode reviews but part of me wants to redo my Season 1 posts and that adds into the list of potential posts to write. This is however one of the anime that I’ve thought about writing select re-reviews for. I considering that approach so that I have less to write and to make things less redundant since I may cover the compilation films before getting to Dawn of the Deep Soul. After Revue Starlight, I’m not in the mood to do a full do-over anyway. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem like we’re getting the next anime installment anytime soon so I might have time to mull it over some more.
- The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies – Unlikely. It is however a short-form anime so I’m not entirely opposed to finishing it.
- The Promised Neverland (Season 2) – Unlikely. Not topical and I’m aware of Season 2’s reception. I’m still willing to finish the season but I don’t think it’d be fun to write about it ten more times so I’ll go the series review route.
- Rent-a-Girlfriend (Seasons 2 & 3) – Unlikely. Season 1 was just okay for me so I’ve never been motivated to catch up on Rent-a-Girlfriend. It’s why I didn’t cover Season 2 before Season 3 premiered and instead chose other anime to return to. Am a little tempted to come back to Rent-a-Girlfriend since Season 3 is apparently pretty good but I’m doubtful about covering Seasons 2 and 3 in episode reviews before Season 4 premieres in July.
- The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic (Season 1) – Maybe. In the same boat as Alya, Hell’s Paradise, and Kaiju No. 8.
Hmm, Kaiju No. 8 was pretty darn good, if I was going to recommend one to do a episode review series of, it would be that anime. Hell’s Paradise was also pretty good, if you don’t mind a really dark anime (lots o’ people die).

I’ll keep those recommendations in mind then. I covered 2 episodes of Kaiju No. 8 so by path of least resistance, it kind of has an edge over the shows I’m only 1 episode in. As for Hell’s Paradise, I don’t mind if it gets dark. I tend to pick pretty lighthearted stuff these days but I’ve blogged my fair share of dark anime.
