Here Lies My Hopes and Dreams for My Blog – February 2025 Edition

Time for an update and some reflections. As always, nothing is entirely set in stone and everything here is subject to change.

Currently Covering:

  • [Seasonal] Sorairo Utility – 5/12 eps. (Saturdays)
  • [Seasonal] Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! – 4/12 eps. (Saturdays)
  • [Retroactive] Kaiju No. 8 – 3/12 eps. (Days off)

Backlog:

  • Princess Principal: Crown Handler – /3 movies; /3 OVAs
  • Violet Evergarden movies – /2 movies.

I was leaning towards taking the season off from episode reviews but I’m enjoying Sorairo Utility and Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! so I ended up having a lineup after all. Not opposed to continuing Ameku M.D. and Guild Receptionist as well but I don’t know where those shows would fit. I’m trying to cover both seasonal shows on Saturday. That way, I can spend Sunday working on the anime archive, as I had originally planned, or to just dick around. Really, the biggest perk is being more likely to go to sleep at a reasonable time. Even though Sunday is when I’m free to blog, I have had to write pretty late in the evening and that’s risky when I have work the next morning.

Speaking of the anime archive, I’ve already done a little bit of maintenance. My screencaps for Bloom Into You have finally been transferred to Imgur and the archive page has all the episode reviews linked again. The same has been done with Cells at Work! though the posts are now linked in the Miscellaneous page. Ditching the Cells episode reviews kind of sucked at first but honestly, I ultimately thought Season 2 was just okay so I don’t regret my decision as much now. I’m almost done with a series review of Season 2; I really wanted to finish the show and write about it shortly after its Netflix release today.

With vacation coming up in a couple of weeks, I wanted a show to cover retroactively and I settled on Kaiju No. 8. That was one of the maybes I had noted in “But What About These Anime?” and it was recommended to me in a comment for that post. I already had Episodes 1 and 2 covered and I’ve seen Episodes 3 and 4 so writing about them is potentially a bit easier. All things considered, this was a more appealing show compared to the other maybes on the list. I admit that I kind of screwed up with picking Kaiju No. 8 as the show is coming back a lot sooner with a movie releasing in March. These days, I try not to play catch up that close to a return date. I briefly considered reversing course but I already made the decision to cover Season 1 so I may as well stick with it. I probably wouldn’t treat the movie premiere as a deadline anyway since it’s mostly a recap and it doesn’t appear to be getting a simultaneous release in the US.

Regarding Princess Principal, I’ve finally decided to tackle Crown Handler. The plan is to do one movie and one OVA a month, with Chapter 3 being reviewed sometime after its Blu-ray release in April. Waiting for Chapters 4-6 afterwards is going to suck but I think I’ve held off on this series for long enough.

For those who don’t know, Crunchyroll has made 20 romance anime available for AVOD during the month of February. Crunchyroll themselves hasn’t announced it officially (and that’s not slimy at all) but plenty of other websites have regurgitated the press release and I checked and all the shows on the list are indeed available for non-premium members. I bring this up because the list has gotten me to finally get through some of those shows. And I make no promises but I have been thinking it’d be fun to blog about them. Alya happens to be one of the listed shows, and I do have that show as a big maybe, but I don’t know if I’ll necessarily default to that show. We’ll see if anything pans out of this event.

One last thing: Gundam GQuuuuuuX – Beginnings will be screening in North America on the 28th. I’m waiting to see where it’ll play but I am leaning towards seeing it and open the door for covering the whole show. As for what I’ll do with the TV episodes the movie is comprised of, I’m not sure. It’d be unprecedented for the blog but if the movie really is just a bunch of episodes back to back, then I may skip covering them individually and resume at the episode that comes right after the movie.
