Sorairo Utility – Ep. 10

There was one last character in Sorairo Utility‘s OP who had yet to make an actual appearance in the show itself. At long last, we finally get to meet this mystery girl, Hina Yoarashi (Maria Naganawa). Hina appears to hail from a wealthy family and she’s made a name for herself as a rising golfer on her way to going pro. Someone like her ought to have no business meeting with anyone in HAM but it turns out, she was among the top players of that AR game shown a few episodes ago. Dumbfounded that HAM beat her to the top rank, she travels all the way to their town to find out what the deal is with them.

Hina waltzes into the driving range with her personal maid (one of a comical many, I might add), right as Minami and Ayaka decide to boot up the AR game again, due to the rain impeding their practice at the range. Noticing that HAM is online, Hina invites them to a match, under her alias, Hinapiyo-chan. Eventually, the two parties figure out each other identities. After beating them in the online match, Hina dismisses HAM’s #1 ranking as nothing more than an error on the game’s part. I’m inclined to call that unfair, not necessarily because or Haruka’s absence or because Minami and Ayaka are better than Hina at golf. Rather, that stinking game clearly wasn’t built too well with skill in mind. Was Hina even playing the same game as HAM, because it doesn’t seem like she noticed all the nonsense in some of those courses.

Amazed with Hina’s golfing skills, Minami strokes the former’s ego and manages to convince her to join her, Ayaka, and Haruka for a game of scramble golf. On the day of the game, Hina is shocked to meet Haruka, who is revealed to Hina’s idol and main inspiration for playing golf. The shock soon evolves into frustration as Hina is upset that her hero decided to stop playing in tournaments and not go pro. Convinced that Haruka’s friends are holding her back, Hina issues a condition to the upcoming match: if she wins, then Haruka has to cut ties with Minami and Ayaka. I don’t know how Hina would keep track of that. Like, is she going to have one of her many butlers and maids follow HAM around for the rest of their lives. Then again, Hina is a kid so I don’t know what I’m expecting here. I really respect Haruka’s attitude here. With how much of an attitude Hina is giving here, I kind of was expecting Haruka to at least get annoyed with her but she stays polite the whole way through. Even when Hina disses her friends, Haruka still doesn’t act the least bit peeved.

Haruka manages to convince Hina to keep their match as a game of scramble golf. Curiously, she picks Minami to be Hina’s teammate while having Ayaka on her team. That’s definitely a very deliberate choice. I imagine Haruka wants Minami to show Hina the same charm that she and Ayaka see in her. It certainly could result in a good lesson for Hina to learn. Chances are, Haruka and Ayaka will be able to put up a good fight so if Hina wins, she might notice that she wouldn’t have pulled it off without Minami’s help. And if she loses, she’ll realize it’s because she didn’t work well with Minami.
