BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! – Ep. 4

After Tomori explains what happened with CRYCHIC, Anon is joined by Soyo in encouraging her to be in a band again. Tomori is still unconvinced so she leaves for the night. Anon talks with Soyo for a bit on what to do next and she mentions to Soyo that Sakiko attends Haneoka, leading Soyo to try and talk to Sakiko the next day. I suppose Soyo was going to find out anyway but with how suspicious she looks, that feels like a mistake to me. Sakiko gets pretty upset when Anon mentions Soyo has joined her band and she refuses to talk to her friend so I have to wonder if there’s some bad blood between her and Soyo that we just don’t know about yet.

Sensing that Tomori is still interested in music, Anon gathers her, Soyo, and Taki over at RiNG to talk things over. A major point of discussion is over who to blame for CRYCHIC’s breakup. Soyo believes no one is at fault while Taki wants to pin things on Sakiko. I kind of want to side with Taki because the big incident that started the band’s breakup was Sakiko quitting out of the blue but who knows. Maybe there’s more to the breakup that the show hasn’t revealed yet. Tomori blaming herself feels like a stretch but given her anxiety and self-doubt, it’s perfectly understandable that she would make that conclusion. I really like Taki’s efforts to assure Tomori that CRYCHIC’s breakup wasn’t her fault. With how rude Taki can be, it’s a bit heartwarming that she has a huge soft spot towards Tomori.

Eventually, Tomori comes around joining a band again. I kind of love how the scene is mostly framed as Tomori reuniting with her old band mates and then there’s just Anon reminding them that she’s still present. Taki is quick to treat Anon as chopped liver, only accepting her into the band because Tomori wants her included. Soyo welcomes Anon but I couldn’t help but notice that she initially forgets to mention Anon when listing off the roster for the prospective band. That really sticks out considering that Soyo was the first to join two episodes ago. The funny thing is that I can’t call Anon the most awkward person in the room, not when you have Rāna eavesdropping on the conversation. I had a real good laugh when the camera pans over to her and the show barely acknowledges it. Who the hell is this girl?

Like in Episode 1, Tomori asks if everyone will commit to being in a band for their whole lives. Taki and Soyo agree without a second thought while Anon is once again hesitant to do so. While I understand that Anon doesn’t want to dedicate herself to a band until she dies, her hesitation is definitely not a great look when compared to the others’ decisiveness. She also needs to bear in mind just how sensitive Tomori is about the prospect. At least she reads the room enough and agrees to commit until at least the band’s first concert.

Now that Anon has a band of some sort, she of course proceeds to brag about it to her class. This kind of backfires on her however as most of the attention goes towards Tomori. Anon also tries to pitch herself as the lead guitarist and singer for the band. While Soyo and Tomori don’t mind too much, Taki does as she’d rather have Tomori sing instead, just like with CRYCHIC. I can’t even disagree with Taki as I’ve quite like Tomori’s singing last episode. It doesn’t help Anon that she actually has limited experience with the guitar. If you pay attention to the OP then it’s not a big surprise that Tomori eventually becomes the face of the band and not Anon. What I want to find out then is how Anon will behave once this is apparent to her. I can see her getting upset but I’d like to think she’d eventually come to accept it and be cool with it.

Right as the band practices for the first time, Rāna appears out of nowhere to join them. While it has been hilarious how this girl is sort of just there, I think it’s time that we finally learn more about her. Another curious moment is a post-credit scene where Uika Misumi (Rico Sasaki), the vocalist and guitarist of an idol duo called sumimi, reads some text messages sent by Sakiko after a performance. I’m not sure what the deal is with her but given the Sakiko connection, she ought to be someone pretty important to the plot.
