As I kind of figured, Taki brushes off Soyo’s anger over using “Haruhikage” for the concert, arguing that Sakiko should be of no concern to her or the band by extension. This leads Soyo to run out and skip practice for the next couple of days. Later in the episode, Rāna actually shows up for practice but with Anon and Tomori reluctant to do so without Soyo, Rāna gets bored and bails for the time being. I don’t know if the band has disbanded just yet but given the current situation and the next episode preview, they’re certainly on their way there. Kind of crazy that Taki spent an entire episode steering the ship and now, she could care less if Soyo shows up or not. I understand that Soyo pushed the Sakiko button but it is frustrating how Taki just refuses to get along with anyone besides Tomori.
Feeling responsible for the growing rift, Tomori tries to apologize to Sakiko. I feel bad for Tomori because it rarely seems to ever actually be her fault went things go south. Apparently, Sakiko’s homeroom is the one right next to Anon and Tomori’s. Given how awkward Tomori is, it’s actually very plausible that she never stopped by until now. There’s also something cheeky how it’d be easy for Tomori to talk to Sakiko while Soyo has been going out of her way to find her, sometimes bordering on doxing even. Sakiko does show up but she gives Tomori the cold shoulder. It’s sad that Tomori’s attempt to reach out to Sakiko didn’t work but Sakiko’s decision isn’t too surprising, considering that she decided in the last episode that she wants to forget everything.
Tomori decides she should contact Soyo next but as mentioned earlier, Soyo has been skipping school. Soyo meanwhile is cooped up in her home, trying to text Sakiko. Realizing that Sakiko has likely blocked her, Soyo finally returns to school so that she can coax Mutsumi into finally revealing Sakiko’s address. As understandable as it is for Soyo to feel apologetic, the way she goes about it is inexcusable. The amount of texts she sends to Sakiko is unhealthy and it’s appalling of her to make Mutsumi feel guilty about CRYCHIC’s breakup so that Mutsumi would spill the beans.
Sakiko meanwhile hangs out with Uika. The two catch up and it’s revealed that they’re childhood friends, hence how the two are already familiar with each other. I’m stunned that Uika was unaware of that CRYCHIC split, only realizing it when Sakiko asks her to drop the subject. I guess she’s been busy working in sumimi and Sakiko didn’t really bring it up before but it also feels like Uika has been living under one hell of a rock. MyGO is definitely setting up something involving these two but the show is pretty hush about what exactly it entails. Since I am covering this show after it aired, I admit that I have some idea but I’m going to keep quiet until the show confirms it and in case I’m wrong.
Rather than take Soyo to where she lives, Mutsumi messages Sakiko of the situation and arranges for the two of them to meet up. During the meeting, Soyo tries to apologize for her band’s decision to perform “Haruhikage” and she pleads for CRYCHIC to be revived, both of which Sakiko rejects. Some of what Sakiko says here feels uncalled for, like when she uses the new band to call Soyo a hypocrite for wanting to bring CRYCHIC back. That said, I completely agree with Sakiko that Soyo really needs to move on. She’s way too hung on the past and it’s starting to feel like she only wants CRYCHIC back for her own satisfaction and less the whole group’s. Not knowing exactly why Sakiko quitted kind of undermines how adamant she is about not coming back but her argument still works because the show has at least made Soyo’s unhealthy obsession apparent.
Having made her point, Sakiko leaves Soyo behind. Interesting that the last shot is Mutsumi looking over the distraught Soyo. I doubt this would make her have second thoughts about quitting CRYCHIC but I imagine that she still feels a little bad for Soyo and I’m curious what she might do next in the remaining five episodes of the show.
