It feels silly to fall behind on a short form series but that’s how the cookie has crumbled this time around. I suppose the quickie format is an option right now but it’d be silly to use it when the episodes don’t take that long to watch and blog about. Writing the normal way should be fine.
This episode takes place sometime after the main show’s eighth episode, after Takina decided to take charge of LycoReco’s finances and provided the show with one of its most cursed gags, the poop shaped chocolate parfait. Despite the dessert still haunting her, Takina has decided to try her hand again at making a new item for the menu. Apparently, she got inspired to do so after watching The Social Network offscreen. I don’t really get it but the idea of Takina casually watching a movie in her spare time and her and Chisato talking about “innovation”, complete with Engrish, are entertaining at least. Funnily enough, these two probably could create their own social network if they wanted to. All they’d need to do is ask a favor from Kurumi (Misaki Kuno).
Amused, Chisato decides to “innovate” herself by attempting to realize a recipe she had jotted down in an old notebook of hers. Honestly, that glimpse of LycoReco’s early days makes me wish we got an episode dedicated to that. I’d love to see in greater detail what it was like for Mika to create the cafe for his daughter. The present day stuff isn’t half bad, though. Aside from Chisato being her usual self, it’s funny that she uses her “Zuckerburg” moment as an excuse to buy expensive ingredients.
Considering that the show brought up the chocolate parfait again, I figured this short would have Takina create another cursed dessert. Once it’s revealed Chisato bought peaches for the experiment, I knew exactly what Takina would come up with. It’s funny and I suppose this new dish isn’t as cursed as the parfait but I have to wonder now what’s going on in Takina’s head. How is she this innocent?
