Another quickie:
- In this episode, Shinon and Kurea decide to get their driver’s license. Naturally, Kurea passes the exams on her first go while Shinon has to do a couple tries. The more time I spend with Shinon, the more I’m concerned how she’s doing in college.
- Very adorable flashback detailing how Shinon loved to travel in her mother’s car. Really like how the episode calls back to it at the end.
- Now that she has a license, Kurea proposes that she and Shinon take the club on a trip with her family’s company car. Would’ve loved to have Kurea’s mother call for them to come back to do a delivery for her.
- I love how in Episode 3, Shinon complained that she’ll be left out of the memories the club will make in the Mt. Takao trip and here in Episode 5, her recollection of the trip makes Nana feel left out. That’s a terrific callback that takes advantage of Nana’s initial absence in the story.
- While taking the wheel, Shinon accidentally takes the car to the freeway, which she has no experience with. Needless to say, this causes some panic among the girls. I don’t know about you but I found my first time on the freeway or highway really nerve-wracking so I really resonated with the tension in this scene.
- Since she’s practiced driving on the freeway before, Kurea offers to drive for the rest of the trip. Very nice of Mako to suggest driving to Tsukiji, having recalled that Kurea fondly remembers traveling when she was little.
- The trip to Tsukiji is where the show finally goes back to the food theme. Not going to lie, I really want to try some of the seafood they grill at the end.
- Having the girls ride a ferris wheel offscreen is the biggest crime of the episode. I mean, what the hell? That would’ve been fun to watch.
