Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon (Season 2) – Ep. 3

As expected, Suori uses her fortune to supply Boxxo with points. I had predicted that Suori would once again try to obtain Boxxo by having that be a condition for offering her help. As it turns out however, she simply is helping the Hunter’s Association with getting the village back in order. The actual stipulation to her offer is that the Association pay her back eventually (which is fair). It feels a bit anticlimactic to me but in hindsight, I shouldn’t have assumed that Suori would actually stoop so low.

With Suori’s loan, Boxxo can use his largest form, the giant ice vending machine, for one hour. Frankly, that doesn’t sound like a lot of time to work with but I shouldn’t be that surprised considering how quickly the ice machine form drains Boxxo’s points. Hulemy devises a plan where Lammis and the mages will repair the village walls when all the fiends are concentrating on an all out attack. This puts anyone at the frontline in danger but it at least means the team repairing the walls will face little to no resistance. As risky as this plan sounds, it ends up going rather smoothly. In fact, Boxxo kind of cheats with his one hour limit by covering the gap with metal slabs instead of maintain his ice machine form. I imagine those slabs cost a lot of points but even so, it’s kind of cheap that no one actually has to worry about the time. I suppose the monsters are technically still an obstacle but they don’t really matter since Director Bear and the others can handle them just fine.

In the midst of the battle, Boxxo notices a human mage directing all the monsters with some kind of magic ring. Presumably, this man is working for the Netherlord. Boxxo flies over, traps the mage with his barrier ability, and, for lack of a better word, proceeds to torture the mage into relinquishing his control over the monsters. Kind of surprising to see Boxxo go to such extreme but to be fair, his torture method is forcing the mage to chug a soda geyser. I’m amazed that this hasn’t been a one-off joke and it’s actually become one of Boxxo’s most recurring tactics. I can’t argue it’s effective since it’s not like the mage understands what exactly Boxxo is doing. Plus, I imagine drinking soda geyser isn’t a particularly pleasant experience.

Things take a surprisingly heavy turn when Lammis identifies the mage as the one responsible for destroying her village and killing her and Hulemy’s families. I have to hand it to this episode as I really did feel Lammis’ rage in this scene. Like, Lammis would never harm Boxxo, at least not intentionally. To see her disregard Boxxo’s wellbeing and punch away at his barrier to get to the mage, it goes to show just how angry she is. My only nitpick is that the scene should’ve let Lammis break the barrier for dramatic effect. A shame then that Boxxo is loaded with points. I like that Director Bear calms Lammis down, before proceeding to interrogate the mage himself. Maybe it’s a little hypocritical but Director is no stranger to getting his hands dirty. Better to let him handle things than have Lammis down down the same path.

While working on repairs, Lammis apologizes to Boxxo for lashing out earlier. Boxxo assures her that he still wants to be by her side, which Lammis interprets as Boxxo proposing for her hand in marriage. It is revealed shortly after that Lammis is kidding around but I don’t know, this is not the first time this show has suggested a romance between its two main characters. I’m kind of convinced that Lammis is a bit genuine here. It’s certainly hard to believe Lammis is lying when she puts an awful amount of thought to what marriage with Boxxo would entail, like whether she should wait until Boxxo is a human again or how the two of them could have kids. Either she’s very committed to the bit or she really has been thinking about this stuff.

  1. this episode was 🔥! Suori just loans points—no shady stuff, nice. Boxxo’s ice form drains fast, but those metal slabs are a smart cheat. Soda torture? LOL, effective tho 😂.

Lammis going full rage on the mage hit hard, and Director Bear kept it cool. That marriage joke? Lowkey cute, maybe real feels there.

    amazing work
