I’m kidding. 2019 may not be the most amazing year for anime but to give it some credit, it has provided some good harem anime starting with The Quintessential Quintuplets and continuing with We: Never Learn: Bokuben. I enjoyed both (please don’t ask me which one I like more. I’m still deciding) and not that I ever hated harem, but those two shows did make me warm up to the genre. However, the only sure way to know is by trying a tutor free harem anime hence where Hensuki: Are you willing to fall in love with a pervert, as long as she’s a cutie? (that title…) comes in.
With a title like that, it’s safe to assume that Hensuki is really leaning on the pervy side of harem. Sure enough, the ball gets rolling when Keiki Kiryuu (Hiro Shimono) helps his friends (all girls) clean up the calligraphy club room and, afterwards, finds not just a love letter but also a pair of panties left for him. Odd though that find may be, Keiki is single so of course he’s determined to find his so-called “Cinderella”. His only guess is that it’s one of the girls who helped him and the only one he’s ruled out is his sister because she’s his sister. There is somewhat of a catch though. Every candidate is revealed to be a pervert and if the first pervert’s kink is anything to go by, they’re into some very interesting stuff.
Putting all the silly and naughty stuff aside, I actually like Keiki’s rapport with all the ladies. You can tell there’s history between him and them and despite his own woes of being a bachelor, every girl is secretly smitten with him in some way. This thus leaves you wondering who made her move and even if the mystery is solved, the question then shifts to whether or not Keiki thinks that person is the right one for him. It’s a little bit different than what I usually see in harem stories and there’s great potential for the clashing of shippings, an element about the genre that I love.
Right now, Keiki has shifted most of his investigative efforts to Sayuki Tokihara (Ayana Taketatsu), an upperclassman and the president of their school’s calligraphy club. What Sayuki sees in Keiki is easy to understand, she’s thankful that Keiki kept her club alive by joining it and she’s relieved that he finds her company enjoyable and not a nuisance. She’s also pretty playful and flirtatious with Keiki though when Keiki asks if she’s hiding something from him, she becomes insecure and starts avoiding him. Just that reaction says a lot about her feelings. She wants things to stay the way they are and she’s afraid it’ll be come crumbling own if Keiki found out what she’s into.
I kind of doubt that Sayuki is the one who left her panties for Keiki to find. The more dialogue the two exchange, the more it seems like the two mean completely different things in regards to Sayuki’s secret. That said, I still completely lost it when the beans are finally spilled. Turns out she’s really into pet foreplay, complete with a collar and leash (not sure why she took off her shirt though), and she wants Keiki to be her owner. Damn, don’t you think you’re setting the bar a little high there, Hensuki? I kind of want to know what everyone else is into now. The funny thing is that this kink was even foreshadowed earlier in the episode with a scene where Sayuki pets a dog and later tells Keiki she wants him to give her the coveted head pats he gives to her sister. I guess when she said she wanted Keiki to pet her, she was not kidding at all.
I don’t know if I’ll stick with Hensuki. The premise is distinct and the characters all have good chemistry but I kind of do suspect those elements might fall to the wayside as the perversions get ramped up. I am however too curious for my good as to what the other kinks may be so I kind of want to stick with the show a little longer just to find out.
