I have no problem dropping an anime at the very first episode though I have been feeling more lenient this season since it is so light on new stuff. This isn’t the case with Peter Grill and the Philosopher’s Time. After one episode, I just know this show isn’t for me.
The plot of Peter Grill (why does this title sound like it belongs to a pulp YA novel?) has its titular protagonist struggling to be faithful to his fiance. He struggles because his fiance is very oblivious about sex (she still assumes babies are delivered by storks) and he’s surrounded by a bunch of other girls who’s more than willing to sleep with him. That’s it. That’s the joke the show is banking on. I don’t find it particularly funny and it frankly makes the main character, the one you’re supposed to relate with, pretty unlikable.
Is this the show at least sexy? I’ll admit that character designs for the ogre twins are pretty decent. Outside of that though, the show looks painfully generic and forgettable. It also doesn’t help that the animation can look really cheap at times. There obviously is fan service here and while only the censored version is available via streaming, the show seems pretty darn bold in how much it wants to show. If that sounds enticing then by all means, give the show a try. Me personally, cheesecake is never enough to hook me so I have no interest in seeing more.
Thanks for reading!
