Here Lies Xeno’s Hopes and Dreams – February 2021 Edition

First off, sorry I’ve been pretty inactive last month. I’ve been very tired and also a little bit stressed. Without going too much into detail, I had recently requested to take a temporary leave of absence from work to minimize contact with COVID-19, specifically for the sake of my folks whom some are at risk. Right now, it’s scheduled to last throughout this month but who knows given how this pandemic is faring here in the US. It sucks, especially since I’ll be without pay for a bit, but my family’s health and safety takes priority.

Because that whole decision making left me drained, I wasn’t in the mood to blog (which is a fun hobby for me but it’s also one that does involves “work”). I’m feeling better now and truth be told, I do have a lot more free time at the moment so the blog might as well benefit from that. Let’s go over what I have in mind for this month.

Scheduled Posts

  • Sun, 2/14 – Winter 2021 Midseason Rankings
  • Sun, 2/28 – Genshin Impact (PC) – Review
  • Every Thursday – Puella Magi Madoka Magica Episode Review
  • Every Saturday – Laid-Back Camp Episode Review

As always, dates are subject to change.

Seasonal Editorials

As always, the Midseason Rankings will be posted halfway through the second month of the season. I actually still need to write my Fall 2020 Final Rankings though since I’m this late, maybe I’ll just combine that with my 2020 Catch Up editorial.

I enjoyed writing the First Impression editorials but to be honest, it was surprisingly exhausting to try and write a few paragraphs for so many different shows at once. Some shows frankly weren’t even worth the time to write about either. Guess I’ll have to think over how I want to approach next season.

Anime Episode Reviews

  • Laid-Back Camp – Will resume covering Season 2 tomorrow and be back on track this Saturday.
  • Puella Magi Madoka Magica – About the only thing I kept up with during the latter half of January. I plan on keeping it that way this month. Once more, I plan on watching the film trilogy sometimes after I finish covering the TV show and Magia Record Season 2 is an extremely big maybe.
  • Winter 2021 Sequels – Since I got nothing better to do this month, I strongly considered resuming coverage for Cells at Work, The Promised Neverland, and The Quintessential Quintuplets but I doubt I’ll go through with it. Four shows is a lot to add to the plate and I have be mindful that I will presumably be busy again next month.
  • Winter 2021 New Shows – Like I said last month, I’d rather give the time towards a new show than a returning one. I did write a standalone post for Gekidol though I haven’t gotten past that. Part of me wants to just commit to coverage for shits and giggles though I’d like for the show to be good or at least interesting so let’s first watch a bit more and then decide. Another series I considered is Idoly Pride which looked almost as insane as Gekidol though I ended up not writing a standalone post for it so I’m not sure what I’d do with that. We’ll see in the coming days.
  • Granbelm – Still on hold, still plan on finishing it.
  • Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club – I dropped coverage halfway through for the sake of time but truth be told, I kind of regret that decision. However, this is actually the last holdout in my Fall 2020 backlog so I’m thinking of finishing the episode reviews, both for fun and to make up for my negligence.
  • Goblin Slayer – Season 2 confirmed! Will I be reviewing it though? Honestly, it depends on what else is airing alongside it. That said, I might want to get around to Goblin’s Crown
  • Yuki Yuna is a Hero – The Churutto! short series is slated to premiere this April. I’ll be watching it though like with the Club Member shorts, I’m debating if it’s worth covering in episode reviews given its short length and presumed lightness on story. Then again, something lightweight would work better if I’m busy in Spring. Meanwhile, Season 3 is still a lock for coverage.

Anime Archive

Haven’t made progress on updating the Anime Archive. Well, I got time now.

Video Game Reviews

Those who follow me on Twitter might’ve noticed that I’ve been playing Genshin Impact a ton these past couple of months. Aside from enjoying the game (I think), I’ve been playing the game extensively as I plan on writing a review for it. I’ve long been meaning to get back into blogging about video games and I hope you all will enjoy the post when it’s out.
