If you’re wondering about the six month gap between the OVA reviews, it’s because I honestly forgot to cover the second one. I think I was prioritizing other shows but yeah, this was really stupid of me. I should’ve just covered this short while was I finishing off Season 2 earlier this year.
Like with the other shorts in Laid-Back Camp, this is very light on content. The plot is basically Rin’s friends imagining her on different solo trips. We briefly see Toba-sensei and Akari sleeping nearby so we can safely assume this episode takes place during the Izu trip. Honestly, the whole short comes across as a deleted scene from that arc.
Starting off with Ena’s scenario is perhaps this short’s biggest mistake. This is Ena we’re talking about here. The short was either going to peak with her scenario or Aoi’s. Ena’s scenario pictures Rin beating JAXA in a race to land on Mars. Just by that alone, you can infer that this is the funniest idea in the episode. Rin traveling all the way to Mars (with nothing else besides her usual camping gear) is hilarious enough but I especially love how annoyed JAXA is with her reaching the planet before them, as if this was a legitimate fear of theirs.
The other scenarios aren’t as absurd as Ena’s. Chiaki simply envisions Rin camping around Shikoku throughout the seasons though her eccentric side does show a little with the attire she pictures Rin wearing. Aoi imagines Rin hitting different hot springs across the region, which sounds relaxing though the fast pace Aoi thinks the trip should be tackled means that Rin would mostly be freezing from the cold. It’s not the craziest thing Aoi has come up with but to be fair, I think the show put most of her insanity in the first OVA. As for Nadeshiko, she simply pictures Rin traveling across Hokkaido. No bells and whistles here so by default, it’s the most normal scenario in the whole short. To be fair, that does speak to how pure Nadeshiko and Rin’s friendship is. Plus, the fact that it is so normal by comparison to the other shorts can be seen as a joke in and of itself.
