Here Lies My Hopes and Dreams for My Blog – June 2024 Edition

Time for an update and some reflections.

Anime Episode Reviews

Currently Covering:

  • [Seasonal] Laid-Back Camp (Season 3) – 9/12 eps. (every Saturday)
  • [Seasonal] Jellyfish Can’t Swim in the Night – 8/12 eps. (every Sunday)
  • [Retroactive/Backlog] Lycoris Recoil – 10/13 eps. (whenever)
  • [Retroactive/Poll] Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury – 2/12 eps. (every day off/whenever)

Scheduling can of course change, depending on what’s going on in my end.

Almost done with Lycoris Recoil. I’m hoping to finish covering the show before the Elden Ring DLC launches on June 21 and my best friend goes no contact on everyone to play it. Props to him for willingly watching the show (he’s not into anime) and waiting for me to be done with each episode review. It’s been annoying covering this show off schedule but other than that, I’ve been having fun with it.

I’ll be on summer break starting on June 14 so I should be more active until the last week of August. Fingers crossed that I finish the first season of Witch from Mercury. Still no decision on Season 2.

Backlog:

  • Princess Principal: Crown Handler w/OVAs – /3 movies; /3 OVAs
  • Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out – /1 movie
  • Revue Starlight OVAs and Movies – /3 OVAs; /2 movies
  • Violet Evergarden movies – /2 movies.

I really wanted to cover Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out at the end of May but finding the time for the episode review has been tough. Hopefully, I can finish it soon.

As for everything else, the goal right now is to be done with Violet Evergarden and Revue Starlight by the end of August. I’d like to be done with Revue Starlight by August 8, when the El Dorado visual novel releases but I don’t know if that’s canon to the anime so this isn’t a hard deadline. I’m still entertaining the idea of updating my Revue Starlight TV episode reviews. I recently rewatched the show; I just need to experiment on the old posts first before I commit to a decision. If it happens, it could start around June 18; if not, then before the Summer 2024 premieres.

Not opposed to adding more anime to the backlog, what with summer vacation on the horizon. I haven’t made anything official however as I really want to get the current stragglers dealt with.

Screencap Housekeeping

To my chagrin, getting screencaps done has been taking a backseat the last couple of weeks. I doubt I’ll be done with Laid-Back Camp before Season 3 ends and I don’t know how much I can get done before I have to put it on hold again. I’d like to take a season off from writing episode reviews to finalize more screencaps but that’s risky and the season in question would have to be underwhelming enough to warrant skipping.

Video Game Blogging

Started playing Wuthering Waves; I plan on writing a review for it by the end of its launch period. Maybe I’ll do character guides like I used to with Genshin. I don’t regret putting that type of blog post on ice, I really wanted to iron out the episode review backlog, but it’d be nice to write that kind of thing again.

  1. In terms of your screen caps. If less than 400 words, 1 or 2 should suffice, since it is a quick post. Standard length of 400-800, 4-5 screen caps should be fine. More than 800 than I’d recommend using an app called share X, it is a screen cap programme, it has this handy feature that can auto capture. And you can set it to how often you want it to capture, like 2 seconds, 3 sec, etc. The shorter one like 2 sec, you will end like my count over 700 screen caps. Just make sure to have 500GB-1TB external HDD or adequate space

    1. I don’t really go by word count. I like to have a large gallery of screencaps for each episode post and I’ve only been doing 1 screencap as a temporary move. It has been tempting to just stick with 1 but I don’t know, I really like how a sizable gallery can look.

I personally use VLC to make the screencaps automatically for me; occasionally I’ll manually save one to get the right frame I want to use. I have a 2TB external HDD for any files related to my blog, including screencaps. It’s been very helpful since my SSD is 1TB and PC games can be ridiculously large.

      1. I didn’t realise you can use VLC for screen caps. with share x, you can set different hotkeys for auto screen caps and allocate them to different folders, can you do the same with vlc? it would be cool if you can

Nice, yeah games are getting ridiculous in their sizes these days

        1. Yeah, VLC has a setting called “scene video filter” that’ll automatically take pictures of the video it’s playing, when turned on. Unfortunately, VLC can only send pictures to one file path so organizing stuff into different folders must be done manually. I manage it since I do one episode of one show at a time but every once in a while, I forget to move stuff and files either get overwritten or disorganized. Probably not that much better than Share X; the features you mentioned sound nice.

          1. Looks like a handy feature!!! does suck that it’s only limited to just one folder though. Share X has other features, I just don’t use them, or very good at using them, you can make gifs. Why not try both? have share x and vlc. I did try it. At the start can be a little bit fiddly, like getting to full screen and such
