After Taki tells her she is the worst, Anon bumps into another former member of CRYCHIC, Soyo Nagasaki (Mika Kohinata), who saw what just transpired and asks Anon if she’s alright. The next day, Anon decides that it’s best that she doesn’t try to push Tomori into joining her band. Obviously, this is a temporary decision in the grand scheme of things but it’s nice to see Anon try to respect Tomori’s feelings. At the same time, we see Soyo convince her former bandmate and Sakiko’s friend Mutsumi Wakaba (Yuzuki Watase) to contact Sakiko about rejoining CRYCHIC. We later seen in the episode however that Sakiko won’t budge. Something that stood out to me is Mutsumi refusing to give Sakiko’s address to Soyo. I can interpret that as Mutsumi simply being Sakiko’s friend but telling Soyo where Sakiko lives would be easier than acting as a messenger between the two so I wonder if there’s some other reason.
After school, Anon’s classmates take her to RiNG so that she can look for band members, which is funny considering what just happened outside the venue. The trip does prove to be a little fruitful as Anon ends up meeting Soyo again, allowing the two to talk about the prospective band at RiNG’s cafe. The only caveat is Anon needing to contend with a very begrudged Taki as her waitress. For the record, I did notice that one of the employees at the cafe is Sāya Yamabuki (Ayaka Ohashi), one of the main characters from the original series. I vaguely recall Sāya being my second favorite member of Poppin’Party (#1 for me is O-Tae) so her cameo makes for a nice easter egg. Don’t expect to me catch any other cameo, however. Again, I’ve only seen the first season of the original series, which almost exclusively focused on Poppin’Party.
During Anon and Soyo’s conversation, we get introduced to the fifth main character in MyGo, Rāna Kaname (Hina Aoki). Rāna shows up at the cafe to play her guitar during an open mic session. Rāna’s guitar playing is pretty entertaining and it’s cute how Anon is annoyed at first, only to then be amazed with the guitarist’s skills. That said, this scene is the only time Rāna appears in the entire three-part premiere. On one hand, it’s funny that she shows up, shreds some notes, and then leaves without elaborating any further. On the other, it tells almost nothing about this character, other than that she likes to vibe.
What catches Soyo’s attention the most is when Anon mentions her attempt to invite Tomori into her band. Realizing that Anon goes to the same school as Tomori, Soyo agrees to join the band as its bassist. As great as it is for Anon to finally have someone else in her band besides herself, I can’t help but feel suspicious about Soyo. The scene does a couple of dramatic close ups of her reactions, with one in particular having her covered mostly by a shadow. Judging from the dialogue, it also sounds like Soyo is only interested in Anon because she attends Haneoka and she could therefore be her ticket to get back into a band with Tomori. Moments like this is why I start to feel bad for Anon. Like, as selfish as her endeavor is, she just wants to form a band. But so far, her potential bandmates include a very socially anxious girl, someone who hates her guts, someone who might be using her for her own gain, and someone who is off to the wayside vibing. I feel like I’m watching the opposite of BOCCHI THE ROCK!!. Instead of an introvert getting the best friends she could hope for, we have an extrovert getting stuck with the most problematic circle possible.
After a second hangout at the cafe, Anon finally learns about CRYCHIC and she realizes that not inviting Tomori to her band might necessarily be the best course of action. Anon then decides to message Tomori to meet up and ask about her past with CCRYCHIC and whether or not she still wants to be in a band. This more or less leads the story to the third episode, which I feel is the best one in MyGo‘s three-part premiere.
