Lycoris Recoil -Friends are thieves of time- Ep. 4

In this episode, Takina and Kurumi review surveillance footage of LycoReco to verify a presumably dubious claim from Chisato that a recent incident in the cafe was caused by a ghost. Apparently, the camera has captured some pretty goofy stuff. I particularly chuckled at the clip of Mika flexing his abs at the camera (for seemingly no reason other than he feels like it). I’m all for eyecandy with male characters but it is funny to think that after this show’s light use of fanservice and the huge fanart scene it still created, this is the naughtiest it’s actually gotten.

Technically, the first clip confirms Takina’s suspicions that Chisato was lying through her teeth. What compels her and Kurumi to continue checking the footage is the recurring appearance of a stuffed animal that seemingly grows more aware that it’s being watched as the footage continues. Just as the footage ends, three costumed animals appear behind Takina and Kurumi. A panicked Takina fires her gun at them, forcing Chisato, Mika, and Mizuki to reveal themselves as the ones wearing the costumes and that this incident is all a prank they tried to pull on her. Considering that Takina walks around the house with her gun, it sounds really dumb to prank her. Then again, when does Chisato’s antics ever make sense? I figured Chisato would dodge the bullets just fine but Mika and Mizuki? Are we sure Chisato is the only superhuman here?

As for the last bit, I’m assuming Kurumi was using some sort of hologram this entire time so that’s why she looks off there and the gang realizes she wasn’t actually present. Either that or she really is a ghost. Regardless, it’s funny seeing everyone lose their minds and to think that Kurumi has the last laugh.

  1. Takina is shown (in the epilogue to the main series as well as Ep 5 of the shorts) as now using the same non-lethal restraint rounds that Chisato has used all along. The risks of pranking her are thus more along lines of wounded pride than bodily harm.
